Payroll Specialist

The Job

Our office in Seattle is looking for a Payroll Specialist to assist in payroll throughout our organization nationwide. In particular, we need someone to:

  • Set up multi-state payroll taxes
  • Review quarterly and annual tax filings for accuracy
  • Keep current on federal and state laws
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries
  • Compile compensation summaries and other information for W-2’s, regulatory reporting and bonus calculations
  • Monitor and update payroll department processes and contribute to development of payroll related policies and procedures
  • Process high volume of bi-weekly payroll for multi business units, as well as off-cycle payrolls and on demand paychecks accurately and timely
  • Reconcile payroll prior to finalization and validates payroll reports
  • Understand Salas O’Brien time off, such as; sick, vacation, company holidays etc., with regards to state regulations and company policies
  • Process and monitor garnishment orders and other issues that may impact payroll processing 
  • Process final paychecks for terminated employees based on state regulatory & compliance time frames
  • Work with managers and employees to resolve questions
  • Perform daily payroll operations, including managing workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed
  • Collect banking information for direct deposit set up, or instruct employee how to set up their own direct deposit information via Employee Self Service

Your Background

To succeed in this role, you need to meet the following basic requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience processing payroll and strong knowledge of multi-state payroll including setting up new states
  • 2+ years of recent ADP experience
  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, or work experience
  • Certified Payroll Professional preferred
  • Advanced data analysis skills, including strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • General knowledge of accounting principles
  • Strong knowledge and experience with FLSA and payroll taxes
  • Good understanding of payment systems including payroll functions, accounts payable procedures, payment terms, and accounting techniques
